Character Information
Character Name: Reyson
Fandom: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Character History: information from the Fire Emblem wiki
- Reyson lived with his ailing father and three other siblings in Serenes forest, the home of the Heron Laguz tribe
- Begnion, a Beorc country, burned down the entire forest
- Reyson and their father Lorazieh were separated from the rest of their family and thought the others to be dead along with the rest of the herons
- King Tibarn of the hawk tribe found and took in Reyson and Lorazieh into his protection
- Reyson spends a great deal of time with the hawk tribe, picking up on and being influenced by a lot of their mannerisms
- He attends the assembly of the Laguz kings with Tibarn, acting as a stand in for his bed-ridden father, the king of Serenes
- He visits Naesala, the king of the crow tribe, to discuss politics between the ravens and the hawks, after which he is persuaded to sleep in a nearby villa for the night. This however was Naesala’s plan to sell him off to the Duke who’s home it was.
- Feeling incredibly betrayed, Reyson fights back against the Duke and escapes the room only to bump into Ike’s group. Ike offers to help him but he rejects the offer with hostility, escaping out of the mansion into the forest.
- Later he appears in the forest attempting to activate a forbidden magic that will destroy humanity, only to be talked out of it by Tibarn and his aides Janaff and Ulki.
- It’s at this time that he sees a glimpse of someone who looks like his sister in Ike’s group and chases them to reunite with his sister
- Apostle Sanaki of the Begnion empire apologizes for the acts of her people in burning down the forest—actions that she herself had not been aware of—and upon Leanne’s request, Reyson agrees to forgive them, singing the Galdr of Rebirth with Leanne and restoring the forest to it’s previous grandeur
- Later when he meets Naesala he agrees to forgive him on account of their pasts as well as the fact that his actions allowed him to reunite with Leanne
- He learns that his sister Lillia was held captive in Palmeni Temple and wanting to know more about her death, begs Ike to allow him to accompany his group into Daein
- A little while later he learns of Leanne’s kidnapping at the hands of the Black Knight, only to have her returned a few chapters later by Naesala, who sought to repent for his crimes
- After Ike and his group defeat the Mad King Ashnard, Reyson and Leanne sing the Galdr of Rebirth to the dragon he was riding who had lost his sense of self. This allowed him to spend a few peaceful moments with his wife Ena before he died.
- They are invited by Caineghis—king of the beast tribe—to Gallia in order to negotiate the Laguz Alliance between the different tribes in order to unite them.
- In the second game we first see him confronting Naesala over betraying the Laguz Alliance.
- He later meets up with Ike and the Greil Mercenaries and asks him to allow him into the group to assist him in battle.
- Reyson’s presence allows them safe passage through the lands of Goldoa when they accidentally take the wrong path out of the Kauku caves, thanks to the kindness he showed Ena’s husband in performing the Galdr of Rebirth
- The group continues its march however; Reyson collapses after the chaos levels of Lehran’s Medallion start becoming uncontrollable.
- He accompanies Tibarn’s group on the path to the Tower of Guidance
- After the battle he sings again to restore the Feral Ones as well as Elincia’s Uncle Lord Renning who had been corrupted by a drug created by one of Daein’s tacticians.
- When Ashera is defeated, they began on a path to create a new Laguz nation and Reyson took a position of political leadership, a position he worked hard for to protect the ideals he believed in
Character Personality: Herons are known for being a gentle, peace-loving race of Laguz—very different from the beast tribes and even the other bird tribes. They are herbivores that cannot consume meat and are very sensitive to chaos in the world. However, Reyson had his home and the foundation for that culture taken away from him when Serenes forest burned. He was separated from his family and taken in by the king of the hawk Laguz. This resulted in Reyson growing up to be very… different from his other siblings and his father.
Reyson looks up to the hawks that protected him. Particularly Tibarn, who has become something of an idol to him; being strong and capable in ways that Reyson himself is not. More than that, the hawk tribe became like a second family to him; one that he would gladly do anything for, even after being reunited with the other surviving members of his biological family. He considers himself to be forever in debt to them for their kindness and is very loyal and dedicated to them.
But that has given him an attitude very unlike his serene-looking appearance. He’s feisty and can have a bit of a temper to him. And when unsupervised, he has a bad habit of being reckless and getting himself into trouble wanting to be helpful when he’s safer staying away. He’s also stubborn to a fault, which makes trying to tell him what’s good for him quite difficult. He doesn’t do any of this maliciously but rather out of a strong desire to be useful and repay others’ kindnesses although he tends to overdo it. His attempts to strengthen his body have almost killed him already after he went so far as to try eating meat like the hawks.
And despite the fact that his race is supposed to be a peaceful one, he has fought on at least one occasion, after he was captured and sold to a wealthy man. In escaping, he hit the man without regret. But even when he’s not being difficult, he tends to wear his feelings on his sleeve. If he’s upset, you’ll know it. At the same time, if he’s happy about something—you’ll know that too. He can come off harsh at times, having developed bitter feelings towards beorcs (humans). He also holds on to a bit of distain towards the crows and thanks to Naesala’s mistakes has a difficult time trusting them although he has begun to try repairing those relationships.
Although it seems at times that his negative feelings out-weigh the positive (and he does sometimes hold it in) the truth is that he’s found a place in his life where he’s pretty happy. He still holds on to his misgivings about what happened to their race and isn’t the quickest to trust humans—but he’s also had time to meet a number of good ones that helped broaden his understanding a little. Being reunited with his sister and later his brother as well also brightened his future considerably.
Those who are good to him will ultimately receive kindness in return, even if it might take some time to earn his trust. While he does have a tsundere streak in him—once you’ve earned his trust, he will be incredibly loyal. But that’s all the more reason that if you break that trust, it will be hard to completely regain it; even if he’ll want to trust again and might eventually do so. Ike and his sister Leanne have helped him grow into a more understanding individual. He still messes up from time to time, but he does try to give people the benefit of the doubt and open up more.
Powers and Abilities: As a Laguz, Reyson has two forms—his more human-like form, which has an almost angelic look to it due to the fact that he retains his large, heron wings. But he can also transform into a heron. All of his abilities are more powerful in his full-fledged heron form, although he can still use those abilities in a limited way in his more human form. Transforming into his heron form in the game requires filling a transformation gauge. He can’t just do so at will—although there are items that allow one to speed up the process.
His abilities all stem from song. They’re called Galdrar and combine specific words and tunes together to create different results. They can revitalize those who are tired in battle, allowing them to fight twice as hard (Vigor), raise allies biorhythm to Best- enabling them to fight in top-form (Bliss), lower enemies biorhythm to Worst- allowing allies to get a hand up on them in a confrontation (Sorrow), raise allies’ Laguz transformation gauges to full (Valor) and fully recover allies’ HP and condition, such as status effects (Recovery).
There is also a song known as the Galdr of Rebirth—a song of restoration that can reverse the affects of illnesses and drugs as well as revive the burnt forest. It is meant to be sung by at least two people, and is harder to sing in chaotic times due to the fact that the heron Laguz are affected by negative/chaotic energy. It makes them weak physically as well as makes it more difficult to use their abilities.
Those who are near him may also receive the affects of his passive ability: Blessing. It restores health; healing those next to him if they are not in top form.
He is not capable of attacking. But he can give smaller units a shove to get them closer to their goals/enemies. He likes putting himself out there but the truth is that physically he’s not strong at all. If not protected, an enemy would take him out rather easily. He’s extra vulnerable to arrows and wind-magic, being a flying unit. But he’s a valuable support unit if you protect him properly.

Network: My name is Reyson—this is my first time speaking with others this way however I am no longer entirely new to this situation. All the same there are still a few things I would like to know.
If there is anyone familiar with the plant life here, I’d like to speak with them. Unfortunately my diet is limited and if there are things I shouldn’t eat, then I’d like to know about them. [Yeah, yeah… not making that mistake again. But moving on--] I have also heard that my dear sister Leanne was here not long ago. If any of you knew her I would like to ask you a few questions.
I’m sure I’ll have many other questions as I begin putting things together here so please bear with me. It has been some time since I’ve had to adapt to new surroundings quite to this extent. Thank you.
Third Person: Nothing about arriving in an unknown land appealed to Reyson. He had no idea where he was or how he came to be there. What he pictured was nothing short of criminal—he’d been there before, although this was the first time he’d been physically relocated. But he wasn’t strong. Taking him by force wouldn’t be a difficult task or a large undertaking. What he really wanted to know was who the culprit was and why.
His position offered a few potential answers to the latter, although worse yet might be those who coveted people of his race due to their beauty and rarity—something far more foul and dangerous. However the real puzzling factor was just how little this place resembled any of the other territories he’d visited. There was a blessing however in the fact that he was not being restrained. In fact… there was nothing from stopping him from going wherever he pleased.
Whatever the deal was with that, he had no intention of waiting around. Although there was definitely the possibility that there was a reason he was allowed to move freely that he should in fact be wary of—he couldn’t imagine a scenario where waiting around for whoever brought him here to come back was the better of his options.
The city seemed to be inhabited by beorcs. While he wasn’t thrilled to be outnumbered by them without a familiar face among them, he also wasn’t certain that any of them had anything to do with his current situation.
All the same, he’d like to be prepared.
That’s why he found himself carrying off someone’s (or perhaps it was just a city decoration—he didn’t stop to ask either way) potted plant. If he was confronted, at the very least he would be able to stun them long enough to flee. With that much figured out, he was willing to slowly approach one of the beorc.
“Excuse me. I have some questions I’d like to have answered.”
